Allied Professional Support Staff

It takes a community to raise a child

At Banyan Fields Primary School we do not work alone. Our Allied Health team work collaboratively with leadership, teaching and support staff to create a positive and happy environment to engage, inspire and encourage our students in their learning and support them to optimise their school experience. Our team comprises of Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Psychologists and our Chaplain.

All services are delivered in consultation with the Banyan Field’s Primary School Principal, Wellbeing Coordinator, Parents/Caregivers, and Teaching staff. These services can be accessed through the school and require parental/caregiver written informed consent. See below for more information.

Occupational Therapist

Occupational Therapy (OT) aims to help our students do the things they need, want or have to do in life.  We look at life roles (occupations), set goals and then work with the individual on any barriers that they maybe preventing them from reaching their goals.  For primary school children, their main jobs are learning (participating in all related education tasks such as writing, listening, concentrating), and playing (where they refine their social and emotional skills).

Seeing children in school helps OT better understand where the child is at, how they function in their environment, and what we can do to help.  Some things we help children with are handwriting, attention and concentration, social intelligence, sensory modulation, and self-care skills (dressing, eating, washing).
